Akira Toriyama passed away at the age of 68
Dragon Ball’s official site and Weekly Shonen Jump site announced that Akira Toriyama has passed away on March 1, 2024 from an acute subdural hematoma.
Toriyama created nationally beloved manga series like
Dr. Slump and the
Dragon Ball series, and his character designs contributed to the immensely popular
Dragon Quest game series. In 2019, he was awarded the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government.
Fellow manga artists who was inspired and influenced by Yoriyama's creations shared their condolences.
Eiichirou Oda, who is the author of
One Piece, commented,
"I remember the day he called my name for the first time, as I had admired him since childhood," "I hope heaven is the cheerful world that Sensei imagined."
