Within the domed city of Romdo resides one of the last surviving human societies on Earth. Millennia ago, a catastrophic ecological collapse rendered the outside world nearly uninhabitable, forcing humanity into these artificial sanctuaries. To aid in rebuilding civilization, humanoid robots known as AutoReivs were created to serve humans in their daily lives. Yet a strange affliction called the Cogito Virus has begun spreading among them—granting the machines self-awareness.
Re-l Mayer, granddaughter of Romdo’s ruler, is tasked with investigating this troubling phenomenon alongside her AutoReiv companion, Iggy. What starts as a routine inquiry soon unravels into a far-reaching conspiracy, forcing Re-l to confront humanity’s most hidden sins.
Meanwhile, Vincent Law, an AutoReiv technician, finds himself drawn into the mystery when bizarre and surreal events begin to surround him. Along with Re-l, Iggy, and Pino, a childlike AutoReiv, Vincent joins an unlikely alliance in the struggle to uncover Romdo’s secrets and to learn the true nature of the enigmatic beings known as Proxies.
